100 YEARS OF LOWA
In the tranquil town of Jetzendorf, north of Munich, Lorenz Wagner, the son of shoemaker Johann Wagner, founded the LOWA company in 1923.
He spent days and months developing lasts, models and soles. His work laid the foundation for the company's future success.
But the company's 100-year history has not only been marked by rosy times. In the 1950s in particular, LOWA had to contend with major challenges, which Sepp and Berti Lederer, Lorenz Wagner's daughter, successfully mastered.
A new era finally began in the early 1990s. It heralded a turning point and made LOWA what the company is today: one of the most important outdoor shoe manufacturers in the world.
The ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID desert is the further development of a legendary combat boot. Its balance of agility, lightness and stability makes it perfect for use by military or police special forces, but also by regular armed forces. The raised MID-CUT shaft provides the necessary support for fast roping and does not restrict movement in close combat. The upper materials used consist of a combination of water-repellent and tear-resistant suede and abrasion-resistant and breathable CORDURA® material. An innovative clamp hook allows the lacing in the forefoot and ankle area to be individually adjusted. The waterproof and highly breathable GORE-TEX PROFESSIONAL laminate is ideal for use in moderate and rather wet environments. The 2-layer PU midsole with MONOWRAP® frame surrounds and supports the foot like a kind of exoskeleton.
The ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID desert is certified as a work shoe according to EN ISO 20347:2012, is antistatic and has a cold and heat insulating sole complex. The outsole is not only very slip-resistant, but also resistant to oil, petrol and contact heat.
For the necessary grip in everyday work.
SLIP RESISTANCE
The ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID has slip-resistant properties. The slip resistance gives the outsole the necessary grip for a firm footing in everyday work.
TWO ZONE LACING
So that the shoe fits properly
TWO ZONE LACING
Thanks to the two-zone lacing, the forefoot and shaft of the ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID have separately adjustable lacing zones. This means that the shoe can be individually adapted to the anatomy of the foot and can be laced differently for walking uphill and downhill.
DOUBLE INJECTION
Upper and sole form a unit
DOUBLE INJECTION
For effective cushioning and a high level of comfort, the sole of the ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID shoe is connected to the upper using a technically complex injection molding process. The upper is then placed in a specially manufactured mold. PU foam is then inserted into this in different layers. This creates the sole, which is connected directly to the upper to form a unit.
Lightness
This process uses the plastic polyurethane. This is a very light foam.
Cushioning
The plastic polyurethane is a foam that has very good cushioning properties. Even if the millions of small bubbles are frequently compressed, they still retain their shape and spring back to their original state. This ensures a good rebound effect.
Diverse design options
The sole can be designed in completely different variants thanks to direct injection. The versatile properties of the materials used allow the shoes to be used in a wide range of ways.
STABILITY FRAME
Comfortably framed
STABILITY FRAME
In the ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID model, the midsole in the form of the LOWA-MONOWRAP® frame ensures the best comfort. This is a three-dimensional design of the midsole that LOWA developed in 1995. This frame comfortably surrounds the foot and supports it on uneven surfaces. In shoes with a STABILITY FRAME, the sole construction is pulled up high.
Good foot guidance
The three-dimensional design of the frame optimally embeds the foot in the shoe.
Increased comfort
The special construction of the midsole ensures a comfortable stand in the shoe. The foot is comfortably enclosed by the three-dimensional frame.
Lightness
The LOWA-MONOWRAP® frame is made of the plastic polyurethane. This is a very light material.
CLOSED HOOKS
Holds without getting caught.
CLOSED HOOKS
The ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID is equipped with closed-type lace hooks. These guide laces particularly securely and prevent the shoes from catching on objects.
GORE-TEX PROFESSIONAL
Guaranteed weather protection – even in changeable conditions.
GORE-TEX PROFESSIONAL
Whether you are doing intensive outdoor activities, training in urban terrain or in adverse weather conditions – GORE-TEX shoes keep your feet pleasantly dry at all times. They are permanently waterproof and offer optimized breathability.
Permanently waterproof
The membrane is reliably waterproof. No matter what you are planning to do, you can rely on GORE-TEX technology to keep your feet pleasantly dry.
High breathability
Designed for optimized breathability, GORE-TEX shoes ensure pleasant comfort even during intensive activities and changing temperatures. Water cannot penetrate, while water vapor can escape from the inside through the billions of pores in the GORE-TEX membrane.
Windproof
The GORE-TEX membrane reliably keeps wind and weather at bay. This means that use is possible in any weather.
Technical data
Name ZEPHYR MK2 GTX MID
Sole LOWA® X-TRAC MILITARY
SLIP RESISTANCE
The sole meets the highest requirements for slip resistance. The slip resistance depends primarily on the design and rubber compound of the outsole. The shoes offer optimal slip resistance on smooth, wet and oily surfaces, but also good grip on the terrain.
LOWA RUBBER OUTSOLE
An outsole designed by LOWA with an optimized rubber compound for good grip.
Midsole 100% polyurethane (PU)
Polyurethane (PU) is a soft plastic that has very good cushioning properties and is therefore mostly used in the midsole. The PU content makes the soles light and flexible in their function.
Insole Approx. 9% polyamide
Polyamides are plastics that are synthesized and can therefore be used to make synthetic fibers. In addition to their great resistance, the main characteristics of polyamides are their dimensional stability, tear and abrasion resistance and waterproofness. Polyamides are also elastic, very stretchable and highly glossy.
Approx. 1% carbon fiber
Carbon fibers are made of carbon, also known as carbon. They are characterized by their remarkably high strength and, as a reinforcing material in the composite material, ensure enormous stability. Carbon fibers are also very lightweight.
Approx. 90% polyurethane (PU)
Polyurethane (PU) is a soft plastic that has very good cushioning properties and is therefore mostly used in the midsole. The PU content makes the soles light in their texture and flexible in their function.
Outer material Approx. 80% suede
The suede corresponds to the underside of the skin and is characterized by a loose fiber structure, which results in a velvety surface and a light pile. Suede is particularly hard-wearing and open-pored due to its rough texture. Depending on the desired look, the suede can remain untreated or be oiled or waxed.
Approx. 20% textile
Our natural and synthetic textiles enable optimal heat and moisture management thanks to their application-specific properties. Due to their structural design, they are supple and thus ensure that our products are very comfortable to wear.
